A NEW shop in Henley has been criticised for its plans for signage.
Stationary store Paperchase Products is taking over the former Clinton Cards store in Bell Street, which closed in June after the company went into administration.
It has applied for a new shop front with glass double entrance doors and a projecting black, double-boxed sign with a white acrylic logo and an opal acrylic fascia sign with halo illumination effect.
Henley Town Council’s planning committee recommended the application is refused on the grounds it would be in breach of the council guide on shop fronts.
Chairman Councillor Dieter Hinke said: “What surprises me is that a lot of these national chains do have packages for conservations areas.
“Paperchase has shops in Windsor and Marlow and must realise the importance of how it looks so maybe someone hasn’t visited Henley.”
South Oxfordshire District Council will make the final decision.
