A MAN from Caversham has been jailed for 14 months after giving false financial advice to an elderly woman.
Sanjay Parmar, of Lowfield Road, admitted four counts of fraud by abuse of position when he appeared at Guildford Crown Court.
Parmar, 43, a registered independent financial adviser, was entrusted to provide financial advice to the victim.
The 93-year-old woman wrote four cheques totalling £58,000 between April and July 2010 after being told they would be paid into her savings account.
A relative of the victim, who lives in Guildford, sought legal advice after realising the money was not being paid into the account.
Dc Andrew Skoglund, who investigated the case, said: “This man was in a position of trust and used this to take advantage of a vulnerable, elderly victim who believed she was handing over money in good faith to invest in her savings.”
