A CHARITY worker is the winner of this week’s hamper competition.
Judith Smethurst, who volunteers at Headway Thames Valley in Greys Road, Henley, won the £75 Tesco hamper by correctly stating that cranberry sauce is served with turkey.
The 74-year-old, from Twyford, will be sharing it with husband Alan, 81, their two daughters Sally Ann and Alison, their husbands and three grandchildren on Christmas Day. Mrs Smethurst said it was a particularly special Christmas because Alison, their eldest daughter, will soon be emigrating to New Zealand with her three children.
She said: “I thought the hamper sounded like a good prize and it looks fantastic — there is all sorts in there — and I will save it for when we have the whole family round.”
Mrs Smethurst added: “We buy the Henley Standard each week because we are very interested in the area. We love Henley, the setting, the old buildings, the river and you have a lot of Headway news in there.”
lThe Standard has so far given away five hampers from Tesco or Waitrose in Christmas competitions this year, with another three to be claimed by lucky winners. This week, readers can enter our competition to win a Machin’s turkey (see right) and next week will be the final chance to win a Waitrose hamper.
