EIGHT international rowers, including four Olympic medal winners, were guests of honour at a charity event organised by students from The Henley College.
The second year BTEC business students are one of six teams from the college raising money for Sue Ryder as part of the charity’s Big Wigs Business Challenge.
Paying guests enjoyed dinner at Temple Golf Club in Maidenhead, with a rower hosting each table. The evening also included a prize raffle.
The athletes included double Olympic silver medallist Debbie Flood, Olympic silver medallist Alex Partridge and Olympic bronze medallists Will Satch and Rick Egington as well as Louisa Reeve, Polly Swann, Victoria Thornley and Marcus Bateman.
Rachael Staines, a business tutor at the college, said: “I have been really impressed by how the six teams have risen to this great fund- raising challenge.
“It has been a steep learning curve for these entrepreneurial students in how to delegate team roles, negotiate tasks and organise a large-scale event.”
Other events organised by the 65 students in the teams have included a bake off at Henley Town hall, a stall at Henley’s Christmas Festival and a five-a-side football tournament.
