Poplar trees face chop
Published 24/12/12

SEVEN poplar trees in Mill Meadows, Henley, are to be felled because they are in danger of collapse.

Henley Town Council carried out tests on the 98ft trees after one came down as a result of the recent floods and found that they are decayed inside.

The other 11 poplar and oak trees to one side of the River and Rowing Museum entrance will be felled in due course.

The trees on the other side will be crowned as they are expected to last for another 10 years.

Town clerk Mike Kennedy said: “The test results show that the trees are compromised and are in immediate danger of collapse. The trees will be coming down subject to us carrying out a replanting scheme.”

Workmen were due to begin felling the trees yesterday (Thursday).
