Big opportunity for chocoholics
Published 11/03/13

THIS giant chocolate Easter egg is being raffled for charity.

The 8kg egg was lovingly crafted by Roy Hastings, master chocolatier and co-owner of the Chocolate Theatre Café in Thames Side, Henley. It took him five hours to make.

Roy used plain dark chocolate to make the grand shell which, he says, gives the egg a better sheen, and then decorated it with roses and a Happy Easter inscription in matching white chocolate.

The raffle will be held in aid of Camp Mohawk, the day centre for children on the autistic spectrum near Wargrave.

Tickets, available from the café, cost £1 and the winning number will be drawn on Easter Sunday.

Last year’s Easter egg raffle raised more than £100 for Sue Ryder.

The egg was won by Eveleen Hatch, of Lambridge Wood Road, Henley.

Despite being a self-confessed chocoholic, the PR director kindly donated the egg to the Henley brownies.

She said: “It was such a beautiful egg that I decided that people in the community should get it. The brownies do great things for the community.”

Mrs Hatch added that her own three children were not exactly thrilled at her decision — I’m not surprised!
