THIRTEEN pupils at Gillotts School in Henley entertained their classmates with a charity talent show called Superstar.

The performers, who sang and played instruments, were introduced by pupils Joseph Lunnon, Charly Ayers and Erin Bradley.

They were judged by T’Pau singer Carol Decker, who lives in Henley, Henley Youth Festival founder Alfie Hay and saxophonist Joe Henwood, a former Gillotts pupil.

The winners were singer and year 10 pupil Jade Allum and acoustic guitarist and year nine pupil Bella Bull, who performed Jade’s original song Time.

They were presented with a framed gold record and also won a slot at the Music on the Meadows event, which will be held in Mill Meadows on June 1.

Pianist and songwriter Lissy Smith, from year 11, was runner-up and closed the evening with her own composition, Come Lay Next To Me.

Year nine pupil Tania McIntosh came third with a piano solo.

Tania and Lissy were both given silver records.

At the end of the show, Decker told the youngsters: “Everybody did a fantastic job and it was really hard to choose a winner.”

The evening was organised by students from the school’s charity committee and raised more than £500 for the Helen and Douglas House children’s hospice. Jake Clark, who performed Slade’s Cum On Feel The Noize with year 10 classmates George Buckett and Dougie McGrory, came up with the idea.

He said: “I originally wanted to do it over Christmas but we had to put it back because we didn’t have enough time. I think it went really well. There was some great talent and the audience responded well, so I’m extremely pleased.”

Music teacher Claire Edwards, who helped the pupils, said: “They put in a lot of effort to make this happen.”
