Campaign for faster broadband
Published 18/03/13

A COUNCILLOR is campaigning for high-speed broadband in Wargrave.

Chez Payne-Annetts, a charity worker, has first-hand experience of the problem as she works from her home in Kings Acre.

Now she is encouraging residents to register their interest for high-speed broadband. To date, 163 people have signed up.

Councillor Payne-Annetts said: “Ideally we need to achieve at least 1,000 people or businesses to get the internet providers to pay attention to a small village like Wargrave.

“I got behind this project because I am acutely aware of the slow speed we experience. It can be incredibly frustrating to work with intermittent and slow broadband.

“I’ve spoken with other business owners around the village and they all agree the speeds do affect their businesses detrimentally.

“Most internet providers offer services of up to 25 megabytes per second as standard, yet even though we pay for it, we do not get anything near that — with the exception of those within a few metres of the exchange in the High Street. The average is four to eight megabytes.

“This is an opportunity to improve our service and not get left behind. Our destiny is in our hands.”
