JUDI-ANN ROSCOE was sitting at the bar of the Angel pub in Henley the other day when her partner said: “Your shoes are disintegrating.”
She looked down to see black detritus on floor under her stool.
“The heels of the sandals were crumbling,” says Judi Ann, who lives in New Street. “I couldn’t walk home in them so had to go barefoot in the drizzle — to the amazement of the passers-by. Luckily, there was no broken glass about.
“I thought, ‘these are Clark’s Springers... how can this happen? Then it occurred to me they were at least 15 years old and had just been lurking in the cupboard waiting to be worn again for a last time!”
There’s a lesson for us all.
