Former Miss Great Britain contestants Amanda Harrington (left) and Louise Cole turned out in boaters and blazers on the Thames in Henley this week to campaign for a National Beauty Day.
"We need more beauty in our everyday lives," Louise told the Standard. "We want to see everyone make themselves beautiful for a day," said Amanda.
The two, who are standing as independents in the coming Henley by-election on June 26th, provide some much-needed glamour to a field of candidates dominated by men.
Asked which they would prefer to be, Miss World or the next Prime Minister, they chorused: "The Prime Minister, of course. He is much more powerful."
