THE head of Henley police is to take part in a 100km charity walk.
Insp Mark Harling will be joined by his friend John Donachy, a police inspector in Newbury, on the walk from Putney to Henley next month.
He will be raising money for the Make a Wish Foundation, where one of his friends works as a fund-raiser. His preparation so far has involved buying a pair of walking shoes and wearing them around the house.
Insp Harling, 47, who regularly carries out six-hour patrols around Henley, said: “I think the walk will be fun and I am looking forward to it.”
Insp Donachy, 40, who regularly goes on walking holidays in Wales, said he had always wanted to walk the Thames Path, adding: “I just thought that this was a good way of doing a big chunk of it and making a difference at the same time.” He will be raising money for Helen and Douglas House.
The men, who first met when they worked together at Reading police station about 20 years ago, hope to complete the walk within 24 hours.
