Concert raises 3,500 for typhoon appeal
Published 23/12/13

A CONCERT held at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley raised 3,500 for the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal.

The Rays of Hope Concert was the brainchild of Jayson Jaurigue, owner of Henley music agency Eight Ray Music.

On arrival, guests were entertained by jazz from the Joe Henwood Trio while enjoying drinks provided by Magoos bar. The concert was hosted by singer Jamie Bruce, who appeared on BBC’s The Voice earlier this year,

It began with Miss Kitty’s modern burlesque act while other performers included acoustic trio the Revue, BBC Radio 2 folk award winner Megan Henwood, 16-year-old singer-songwriter Etham Basden, funk-soul collective Brother Strut, rhythm ’n’ blues band the Tom Michell Trio and soul singer Sean Rumsey.

There was also a performance by the Acorn Music Theatre Group while the final act was Mr Jaurigue’s band, Junior Guevarra, featuring Mollie Marriott and Bruce on vocals. This was followed by a grand finale where all the acts joined together on the stage to sing Lean On Me.

Mr Jaurigue said: “Huge thanks to everyone who came, especially the acts and all the sponsors. The money raised is going to help make a difference to the people affected by this tragedy.”

The event was also supported by Ri-Web.
