A FORMER teacher at the Oratory School in Woodcote has been convicted of carrying out a series of sex offences against pupils.
Jonathan O’Brien, 55, of Bosham, West Sussex, was found guilty of 17 counts of indecent assault and five of gross indecency at Chichester Crown Court.
Jurors cleared him of four assaults on the direction of the judge, who said two other charges were to lie on file.
The offences involved boys aged from 10 to 16 at schools in Worcestershire and Oxfordshire between 1982 and 1988.
During the trial, jurors heard O’Brien abused “clever, slim, blond, blue-eyed, sporty boys” at Winterfold House School in Worcestershire and The Oratory.
Prosecutor John Causer said O’Brien used his charm to attract his victims and made them believe he was “sharing a secret” rather than “forcing something on them”.
O’Brien abused pupils in a darkroom at Winterfold under the guise of giving photography lessons.
Jurors heard the room was “ideal” for his purposes because it had a lock on the door and a warning sign outside.
O’Brien will be sentenced on February 7.
