BUSINESS students at The Henley College have raised £2,287 for Sue Ryder.
They have been taking part in the charity’s Big Wigs Business Challenge as part of their BTEC diploma course on managing a business event.
They organised and promoted a range of events ranging from sponsored cycle rides and cake sales to quiz nights and an event at the town’s Over-60s Club. The winning group comprised Vanessa Mesquita, Jennifer Duckett, Christian Leaver, Louise Peddle and Nina Nuzi, who raised a total of £1,185 with events including a charity golf day at Caversham Heath Golf Club.
College principal Tom Espley said: “I am very proud of our students’ achievements. This is a great opportunity to learn important business skills and at the same time contribute so much to the local community.” Pru Sly, of Sue Ryder, said: “This was a great achievement by all the students.”
This is the sixth year of the challenge in which teams are given £60 to turn into a much money as they can for the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed.
This year’s competition has a theme of 60 years to mark the foundation of the charity by Lady Ryder in 1953.
