Hospice donation
Published 24/02/14

MEMBERS of Goring and Streatley Golf Club have donated 5,372.60 to Helen and Douglas House.

Outgoing ladies’ captain Jean Webster nominated the Oxford hospice for children and young adults as her charity for 2013.

The money was raised at nine events, including a cocktail party, a ladies’ gala with a raffle and auction and a bridge drive with a cake sale.

Members Nicky Fuller and Dave Slater completed a sponsored run.

Mrs Webster, of Manor Road, Goring, knew the hospice architect, John Bicknell, who also lived in Manor Road until he died in 1997.

She said: “Over the years I have appreciated that although the children who visit this hospice only have a short life, they and their families can also have a very happy life with vital support from Helen and Douglas House.”
