£4.5m roadworks may take up to 30 weeks
Published 06/05/14

WORK on a £4.5 million scheme to resurface the A4130 at Bix will begin on May 12.

Oxfordshire County Council is to carry out major reconstruction work along the dual carriageway. A sink hole that appeared on the road last year will also be fixed. The work will take up to 30 weeks.

Councillor David Nimmo Smith, cabinet member for transport, said: “I am pleased that the county council is investing so much money in this road as it is a route that is well used and highly valued by many people.

“I know that people have been calling for this work to be done for some time and will see the inconvenience they experience in the short term as being worth it when the road is back at full capacity. It is not a simple job and will take some time to complete. Because of the length of road involved the traffic management arrangements will alter as the work progresses.

“Signs will be up on site to help drivers and I would also urge people to check the local transport information on a regular basis.”

There will be a range of restrictions associated with work, including some weight limits on rural lanes nearby that are intended to discourage heavy goods lorries from travelling through villages.

The council says not all the restrictions will be in place at the same time, nor for the whole duration of the project. Signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force and to direct affected traffic.
