Parents warned of school closures
Published 07/07/14

PARENTS across Oxfordshire are being urged to plan ahead for the teachers’ strike that is set to take place on Thursday.

The Henley College has said it will not be affected by the industrial action but some schools could be affected.

A statement from Oxfordshire County Council, the eduction authority, said: “It is difficult to predict with any degree of confidence how many schools in Oxfordshire will close or partially close as a result of the industrial action.

“However, it is inevitable that some of Oxfordshire’s schools will be affected.”

Schools will contact parents directly about closures or partial closures as soon as they can and council officials are contacting schools to ask them to inform the county council in good time how they will be affected so that its website can be updated regularly.

Frances Craven, deputy director for children, education and families, said: “We do completely understand that schools themselves may be dealing with a very fluid picture right up until the last minute.

“But we hope that teachers will appreciate that there is an impact on the lives of people beyond the confines of the school and provide as much good, solid information about impacts as they can, in advance.”

The strike is part of nationwide industrial action being taken across the public sector in a long-running row over pay, pensions and conditions.
