MORE than 100 people competed in Wargrave Boating Club’s annual rag regatta on Saturday.
There were 19 races, including punting, kayaking and dinghy racing, and entrants as young as four.
Spectators lined the banks of the Thames by the club in Station Road and there was a barbecue, tea and home-made cakes for all entrants and their guests.
The newcomers event was won by the Beazley family, of Station Road, Wargrave, while the over-18s scratch dongola title went to a team comprising Peter Hanks, Roger Masters, Tanya Coleman, Dave Askew, Tobin Keen and Andrew Denham.
The Bull Enduro kayak race, which involves downing a half pint at the Bull in High Street, was won by David Corke and Sian Barr. Its junior equivalent, the Anne Reid Enduro, where the children drink lemonade, was won by Alex Leigh, 14, and Hannah Masters, 13.
Organiser Sue Gutierrez said: “It was lovely to see so many new families getting involved as well as more familiar faces. Several people were inspired by the mixture of fun and competition to enter the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta in August.
“As ever, thanks to all the volunteers who made the day possible with particular mention of Camilla Cook, Jane Swift, Jane Jordan, Megan Rowson, Charlotte Taylor and the team of umpires and course-layers.”
