TEENAGER Callum Gregory has been called up by Berkshire for their Unicorns Championship match against Devon at Exmouth starting on Sunday (11am).
The 17-year-old Finchampstead seamer replaces Reigate Priory’s Rob Williams, who is ruled out with an arm injury, while Henley’s Tom Nugent is still troubled by a back complaint.
Berkshire have named a provisional squad, which includes Henley players David Barnes, Matt Carter, Stewart Davison and Gurveer Singh.
But this quartet have to decide between county and club, as Henley are playing Wanstead and Snaresbrook at Bury St Edmunds in the re-arranged South East area semi-finals of the National NatWest Twenty20 competition on Sunday. The winners play Swardeston or North Middlesex in the final on the same day. The games should have been played last Sunday, but were rained off.
The trip to Devon is Berkshire’s final match of the season and they are still seeking their first win in the championship.
Three defeats and two draws have left them bottom of the Western Division and they will need to lift their game if they are to break their duck at the seaside ground in Exmouth.
Devon occupy fifth place in the table, 12 points behind leaders Cheshire.
Berkshire’s provisional squad is as follows: Barnes (Henley), Macey (Harefield), Stephens (Finchampstead), James Morris (captain, Bashley), Richard Morris (Bashley), Waqas Hussain (Slough), Davison (wicketkeeper, Henley), Rishton (Reading), Carter (Henley), Gregory (Finchampstead), Singh (Henley).
