OLYMPIC rower Debbie Flood was the guest of honour when members of boys brigades from across South Oxfordshire marked their success in learning to row by visiting Leander Club.
About 30 boys and girls completed the beginners’ course, which was co-ordinated by Jim Flood of Reading Rowing Club and supported by the freemasons from Regattas Lodge.
Eric Hudson, boys brigade director for England, accompanied them on the tour of Leander, which was followed by a lunch of pasta.
Debbie, a double-Olympic silver medallist, talked to them about the dedication needed to reach such a high level and the part her Christian faith had played in her success.
Three lucky boys were given the opportunity to row in a four with her down the royal regatta course.
