A TRAINEE policeman has won an out-of-court settlement after claiming he was "humiliated" for being dyslexic.
Eddie Urwin, 43, of Gainsborough Road, Henley, made a claim for discrimination on the grounds of his disability to an employment tribunal.
On the second day of the tribunal in Reading on Monday, officials representing Thames Valley Police made a cash offer that he accepted.
The tribunal was told in a statement that Mr Urwin had been on his second period of employment with the force.
His first job was as a civilian driver at Henley police station in the Nineties but ended after three years when he quit because a colleague ran off with his then partner.
This time, Mr Urwin claimed he was humiliated and embarrassed by training staff who failed to recognise his dyslexia and encouraged him to leave the force when he told them about it.
In his claim, he said he believed his trainers should have identified that he had a learning difficulty and helped him.
