A WOMEN’S clothes shop has won the Henley Christmas window display competition.
The theme of this year’s contest was “A blooming gold Christmas”, so Barbara Easton in Duke Street recreated the gold postbox in Hart Street by using an old stand spray-painted gold.
Also in the window were flowers painted gold using food colouring, gold coins and mini-gold postboxes and shoes. A Standard photograph of Mayor Elizabeth Hodgkin and the Henley in Bloom committee picking up a gold award in the Britain in Bloom competition had pride of place.
Owner Barbara Easton said: “It was a team effort. I do think it is important to have nice windows to encourage people to come in.”
Mrs Easton, who has had the shop in Henley for almost 20 years and also has a branch in Wokingham, won the Milton Gordon Perpetual Cup and a bottle of champagne while six members of her staff will enjoy a three-course meal at Hotel du Vin in New Street.
The competition was sponsored by the hotel, office services company Delegate and financial advisors Milton Gordon & Co, both of Hart Street.
The Rive Gauche boutique in Hart Street was runner-up and third place went to Foam, also in Hart Street.
