Henley care home worker honoured
Published 18/12/12

A LAUNDRESS at a Henley care home has been honoured for her work.

Kim Boseley often works over her hours and takes up multiple roles at the Chilterns End residential home in Greys Road, Henley.

As well as washing and ironing the residents’ clothes, she has taken on housekeeping, cooking, kitchen and care assistant duties for the past eight months.

At a ceremony in Lincoln Cathedral for the Orders of St John’s Care Trust, which owns the home, she was given the Chairman’s Commendation for Meritorious Service.

Ms Boseley, of Crisp Road, Henley, has worked at the 46-bed home for the past eight years and says she enjoys her role. “I don’t mind doing what I do,” she said. “Wherever we’re short I will step in and help out. You go away from here and you feel like you’ve done something good.

“I love working with the old people. If I can make their morning pleasant and happy then that’s great.

“I enjoy putting smiles on residents’ faces and caring for them. A lot of them have been there for many years and we get close to them.”

Ms Boseley thanked her son Samuel, 18, and mother Diana for helping her work extra hours. Samuel, a student at The Henley College, prepares his six-year-old sister Tia for school each day.

His mother said: “If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have been able to give a lot of time to the home. My mum has helped out by looking after my daughter since she was born so I could get back to work. I don’t know what I would do without her.”

The trust owns about 70 care homes in Britain and asked for an employee at each one to be nominated. At the ceremony, 20 workers received a certificate and badge.

Home manager Vicki Morl, who nominated Ms Boseley, said: “Kim’s a really good team player who has taken on extra roles.

“All the residents like her because she brings laughter and smiles. She has a good nature and their families are also fond of her.

“Kim doesn’t need to be asked to undertake extra duties — she uses her own initiative.”
