Special deliveries on Christmas Day
Published 03/01/13

TWO couples welcomed babies into the world on Christmas Day.

Tillie Autumn Hunt and Krishan Rajeev Kapur were both born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading on December 25.

Sonia and Raj Kapur described the birth of their son at 8.43pm as “amazing”. The couple, of Kidmore Road, Caversham, had been expecting their first child today (January 3).

They had to put their Christmas dinner in the fridge when Mrs Kapur went into labour.

The 37-year-old, who works for a finance company in Reading, said: “Normally first babies come late but I thought that if I was lucky he might come a week early and that he could have been a New Year’s Eve baby.

“I had a feeling on Christmas Eve that he might come, I just felt like it might happen. Things started happening at 2am on Christmas morning, though the hospital try to make you wait it out at home.

“I was having contractions at home until 8am but I knew he was going to come. He was ready by 4pm but I had had an epidural which slowed everything down.”

The couple, who married in September 2010, say the birthday of Krishan, who weighed 6lbs 9oz, is extra special given their heritage.

Mrs Kapur said: “We are Indian and I was born on Diwali, which is the Indian equivalent of Christmas. I think that is really special, then for my son to be born on Christmas Day — it is such a blessing and it really is the best gift.

He is so cute I could eat him. I want 100 more.”

Mrs Kapur added: “I thought after he was born that I could relax and watch all the Christmas television but the first three days were really difficult as you do not sleep.

“I am ready to eat my Christmas dinner now, though.”

Tillie is the first child for Robyn Hickman and Antony Hunt, of Reading Road, Henley. She arrived at 3.42pm and weighed 7lbs 13oz.

Mr Hunt, a landscape gardener, said: “She was due on Boxing Day and I think it is pretty lucky and special that she came on Christmas Day.

“She obviously couldn’t wait to come out.

“We went to the hospital at about half past five on Christmas Day morning.

“We kind of knew she was going to come on that day as Robyn had been told that she would have to be induced if nothing had happened by then.”

The couple, both 24, have been together for three-and-a-half years.

Mr Hunt, a former pupil at Gillotts School, said: “This has been the best present and we are both loving being new parents. Tillie cries a lot at night but she is good as gold during the day. We would like more children but not yet.”
