ABOUT 130 runners and several dogs took part in this year’s Henley Operatic and Dramatic Society May Day fun run, writes Janine Rasiah.
Liam Proudlock, 50, won the event after finishing the 5.2-mile course in 29 minutes and 56 seconds.
He has been competing in the race on and off for about 15 years and used to live in Sonning Common before moving to London.
Peter Kook, 14, was the fastest junior boy, coming home in a time of 31 minutes and 38 seconds.
The Reading Blue Coat pupil, who lives in Belle Vue Road, said: “I’ve been running it for a few years so it’s nice to win.”
Jessica Gibbon, 16, of Rotherfield Road, Henley, was the fastest junior girl, finishing in 32 minutes and 17 seconds. She said: “It feels really good.”
Carrie Hoskins, 45, of Watermans Road, was the fastest woman, coming home in 33 minutes and 22 seconds.
Keith Jefferies was the fastest HAODS member for the second year running.
The event, which started and finished in Temple Island Meadows, raised about £1,000.
Julie Huntington, who chairs the society, said: “The weather was wonderful and I’m sure we had a few more people enter on the day because of that.
“Most of our regulars entered and we hope to push the number up a bit more next year.”
