Wargrave Road in Henley will re-open to traffic next week after gas main replacement was completed ahead of schedule.
The stretch of road between Marsh Lock and Conways Bridge was shut on August 19 and was scheduled to remain closed for three weeks.
Now it is re-open on Tuesday lunchtime.
However, temporary traffic lights will be in place between the junctions at White Hill and Marsh Lock while the third and final phase of the work take place, scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
A spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks said: “We were keen to get the road closure lifted before the schools go back and we have made really good progress.
“We would like to thank everybody for their patience during these works.”
