Over-60's Club entertained at lunch
Published 21/12/13

PENSIONERS enjoyed a Christmas lunch at the Henley Over-60s Club on Monday.

The 60 guests were served roast turkey with all the trimmings followed by Christmas pudding and custard, mince pies and coffee.

Members of the Sacred Heart Primary School choir entertained the diners with carols. They sang the first verse of Silent Night in German and signed along to God Hears Me.

A clarinet player also performed a number of songs and there was a raffle.

Transport to and from the club was provided by the Henley Handicap bus.

Connie Butt, who manages the club with Lynda Mortimer, said: “The Christmas lunch brings people together, including those who only come once a year and realise they should come more often.”

She thanked Mrs Mortimer, Melissa Wakefield and Elizabeth and Richard Hodgkin for their help on the day, as well as the Copas Partnership for providing the turkeys and Henley Youth Centre for donating the mince pies.

Henley Mayor Stefan Gawrysiak, who attended with Mayoress Catherine Allan-Notaras, said: “Everybody seemed to have a great time and it just proves what a wonderful service the Over- 60s Club provides.”
