Thames Valley Ancient Egypt Society
Published 20/04/15

THE society promotes the study of ancient Egypt through monthly public lectures, study days, evening classes and study tours, with members drawn from Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and beyond.

Lectures are usually held at the Oakwood Centre in Headley Road, Woodley, and are free to members. Visitors can attend most events (£3 donation).

The most recent lecture was called “Eight women: tomb treasures of the late middle kingdom” by Wolfram Grajetzski.

The Egyptian Middle Kingdom is rich in undisturbed burials of royal women. They are well known for the finest jewellery ever produced in ancient Egypt but they also contained an array of objects used in rituals.

On May 9, the lecture is called “Family matters: kinship and kin groups at the turn of the third millenium BCE”. The speaker is Leire Olabarria. On June 6, the lecture is called “Howard Carter: an alternative view of the man through his art” by Lee Young.
