Local projects benefit from National Lottery
Published 14/02/14

MORE than £560,000 was given by the National Lottery to 10 community projects in and around Henley last year.

The grants are designed to boost arts, sport and heritage and community groups which help vulnerable people.

The Henley College received £64,527 from Sport England towards sports participation for the semi-engaged and disadvantaged.

The Lest We Forget Project was awarded £8,200 by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards three new war memorials in Henley. This fund also gave £118,900 to the Stonor Foundation to re-tile the Catholic chapel at Stonor Park, where services have been held since 1349.

Bishopsland Educational Trust in Dunsden received £130,000 from Arts Council England for its development and consolidation and another £45,150 to support its bursaries and exhibitions.

Furniture maker Philip Koomen, from Shiplake, received £9,900 from the council to carry out an 18-month project into the nature of creativity. The project, called Ideas In The Making: Researching Creativity, will culminate in 40 different ideas for furniture designs — one for each of his years as a wood craftsman — and up to six finished pieces.

The Langtree School Academy Trust Company was awarded £109,900 from Sport England for a community floodlit Astroturf sports facility. Sport England also gave £10,000 to Goring Thames Sailing Club towards new equipment.

The Cuxham village hall committee received £6,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to put on an exhibition called “1,000 Years of Cuxham History”. Garsington Opera was given £10,000 by Arts Council England.

Any project which has received Lottery funding is eligible for this year’s National Lottery Awards 2014. The winners will receive £2,000 each and will be invited to the awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on BBC 1.

For more information or to make a nomination, call 0207 293 3599 or visit www.nationallotteryawards.org.uk. The deadline is midnight on March 12.
