THREE boys set up a stall in Henley town centre to raise money for a new music room at their school.
Jem McAllister, Sidni Brener, both 11, and James Martin, 10, sold home-made cakes and sweets, second-hand toys, books and games and three-dimensional models.
The boys, who are in year six at Valley Road School, raised about £40 during their two-hour sale on Sunday. A quarter of their takings will go to the school’s parent-teacher association, which is fund-raising for the music room, with the boys splitting the rest between them.
They hope to make the stall a regular event and raise money for a different cause each time.
Jem said: “We’re doing it again on March 16. If that goes well we’ll be coming back two weeks after that.” James added: “We enjoyed being out raising money for the school so new people have the opportunity to learn different instruments and maybe become a musician when they’re older.”
Sidni’s mother Chilli, 45, of King’s Road, Henley, said: “They ended up doing everything for themselves, including the risk assessment, what they were going to sell and costing it all out.”
