Cycle shop granted facelift
Published 23/03/14

A CYCLE shop in Henley has received a facelift thanks to a grant. James Miller, owner of Henley Cycles, has spent £2,500 on a new frontage for the Reading Road store, half of which was provided by the Henley shopfront improvement grant scheme.

The scheme is funded by Henley Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council to help shop owners, tenants and landlords improve the appearance of their premises. The store, which opened five years ago next month, has been repainted and has a new sign and awning.

Mr Miller, 38, said: “I had been meaning to change the awning for a while but the help of the councils made it a lot easier. The new look has brightened up the shop. Five years ago, half the shops along this parade were empty but now they are looking really nice. I am very grateful to the town and district councils for their support.”

The shopfront scheme was launched a year ago by town centre manager Peter McConnell to make Henley look more attractive. Businesses have to match the money they receive.

Other shops to receive grants are Bagatelle Toys and the Bell Book Shop, both in Bell Street, Asquiths teddy bear shop in New Street, Cannelle Beauty in Hart Street and Upstairs Downstairs in Duke Street.
