Facelift for Henley Royal Regatta HQ

THE headquarters of Henley Royal Regatta are being repainted in the build-up to this year’s event.

Scaffolding has been erected around the outside of the building, which is just upstream from Henley Bridge.

The work is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Edward Warner, assistant secretary, said: “It was last painted in about 2006 so all the colours have started to fade a bit and we just wanted to keep it in good order. We are keeping the original colours and just smartening it up a bit.”

The building, which was opened by the Queen in 1986, was designed by British architect Sir Terry Farrell, who is best known for designing the MI6 building in London. It won the Financial Times Architectural Award in 1987 and both the Civic Trust Award and the RIBA Award a year later.

The administration of the regatta is carried out from the building, which includes offices and storage space for equipment. This year’s regatta will take place from Wednesday to Sunday, July 2 to 6.
