Broken glass affects playground safety
Published 01/06/14

PARENTS have been warned to take care after broken glass was found in a Henley playground.

Small shards were found on a slide in the Makins recreation ground playground after a mother cut her hand when picking up her child.

The incident was reported to David Eggleton, of Gainsborough Residents’ Association, who went to the play area off Greys Road to investigate.

Mr Eggleton believes a bottle had been broken outside the playground and pieces of glass were brought in on the shoes of youngsters using the equipment.

He said: “I cleared up the bits of glass and someone told me they had picked up another smashed bottle. We put all incidents on our Facebook page and we are telling parents to be careful and look out for their kids.”

Mr Eggleton said he would report the incident to the council, which is responsible for the recreation area.

He said there had been a problem with people drinking in the area but this had eased and the bins were being used.
