A BEER created to raise money for Henley in Bloom has gone on sale at nine pubs in the town.
Blooming Marvellous, a 4.3 per cent golden ale with floral aromas, is being sold throughout this month.
Twenty pence from every pint will go towards hanging baskets as part of the Going for Gold campaign, launched by the Henley Standard in April.
Henley in Bloom teamed up with Brakspear to create the ale, which was brewed at its microbrewery at the Bull pub in Bell Street. The idea was the brainchild of Marisa Francini, a member of Henley in Bloom and the Campaign for Real Ale.
She said: “Henley in Bloom is partly about recognising historical significance and the town has a proud brewing heritage, which was revived when the Brakspear microbrewery opened last year.
“I had the idea of brewing a local beer that helps our Britain in Bloom ambitions and Brakspear has created this marvellous golden ale that I’m sure will sell well.” Brakspear will brew 28 firkins — about 2,000 pints — of Blooming Marvellous and a pump clip has been designed featuring flowers and a bee to tie in with the company’s logo.
If the beer is a success it could become an annual initiative between Brakspear and Henley in Bloom.
Marketing manager Emma Sweet said: “Blooming Marvellous is the perfect beer for enjoying on a summer’s day — light, refreshing and very drinkable.
“Combined with its contribution to the Going for Gold campaign, we’re expecting many of Henley’s drinkers to order a pint or two and are all set to increase production of Blooming Marvellous if required.
“We’re delighted to be supporting Henley in Bloom’s campaign for a gold medal. Several of our pubs have wonderful gardens and outdoor spaces that contribute to the appearance of the town and now we can also help through the sales of Blooming Marvellous.”
The pubs selling the beer are the Angel on the Bridge, the Little Angel, the Three Horseshoes, the Saracen’s Head, the Old Bell, the Bull, the Three Tuns, the Anchor and the Row Barge.
