Night walk for Alzheimer’s Society
Published 19/06/14

A FAMILY from Peppard will walk through the night to raise money for a charity.

David and Josie Colin, of Colemore Lane, and their three children, Izzy, 14, Scarlett, 12, and 10-year-old Finn, will set off on the sponsored walk tomorrow (Saturday) at 10pm.

They are raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society in honour of Mr Colin’s mother Ros, from Poole, who was diagnosed with the disease in November.

Finn, a pupil at Moulsford School, came up with the idea.

Mr Colin said: “When talking about Alzheimer’s to our children, we discussed how doing things that we think are easy, such as making a cup of tea, become much more difficult if someone turns the lights out.

“Some days Grandma has a good day and can do lots of things independently and some days it is as though someone has turned the lights out and she is stumbling around in the dark.”

Finn said: “Dad was talking to us about Alzheimer’s when Grandma got it and then I just thought it would be something we could do. I think it’s going to be very tough.”

The family, who have already raised more than £1,000, will set off from Wallingford and walk until the sun comes up by which time they plan to be near Henley.

Mr Colin said: “The Alzheimer’s Society has been really supportive. They have helped us understand the options we have open to us in terms of care and they rely on voluntary donations to continue their work.”

Mrs Colin said: “It is a really positive thing to do. Rather than all get sad, we thought we would get out and do something.”
