Summer party and awards for Brakspear pubs

HOSPITALITY awards have been presented to two Brakspear pubs.

The Little Angel in Remenham Lane, Henley, and the Butcher’s Arms in Blounts Court Road, Sonning Common, were among five out of all the company’s 130 pubs to win the award.

The winners were chosen after visits by mystery customers who rated the pubs on all aspects of hospitality, from cleanliness and service to marketing and merchandising.

The landlords received a plaque and a choice of either £1,000 in cash, or £2,000 to invest in their business, at the company’s annual summer party, which was held at Bix Manor and attended by 150 tenants and leaseholders.

Doug and Lolly Green run the Little Angel as well as the Cherry Tree in Stoke Row and the Unicorn in Kingwood.

Mrs Green said: “Winning this award was an unexpected but welcome surprise.

“It’s great that Brakspear gets us all together once a year for this celebration. We’re all so busy running our own pubs so it’s good to stop and catch up with the other tenants.”

Rob and Ellie Blues, who run the Butcher’s Arms, chose the £2,000 prize to spend on redecorating the pub.

Mrs Blues said: “We’re delighted to win this award and it’s nice that the effort we’ve put in is paying off.

“We’re grateful to our team of great staff and loyal customers, whose great support has helped us to build a successful pub.”

Mrs Blues said the mystery customer visits were useful and one had suggested the pub needed redecorating.

Tom Davies, chief executive of Brakspear, said: “The achievement of our winning pubs cannot be overstated.

“Scoring consistently well across two in-depth mystery visits is a tremendous result and a reflection of the high standards across the board that these talented licensees have embedded in their pubs.

“It is a pleasure to recognise their hard work.”

The company started its mystery customer visits in 2010 and Mr Davies said: “We are delighted that the estate overall has again lifted its average mystery customer score for the fourth year.

“This is especially impressive given that we have made the questionnaire more robust every year.”
