Bryan Ferry opens Henley Festival
Published 10/07/14

BRYAN FERRY had his audience dancing as he opened the Henley Festival.

The former Roxy Music frontman was greeted with wild applause as he took to the floating stage on Wednesday night.

Dressed in a multi-coloured velveteen smoking jacket and bow tie, Ferry performed hits including Slave to Love, Avalon, Let’s Stick Together, Love is the Drug and Jealous Guy.

After arriving at the side of the stage in a BMW, he told the crowd: “It’s great to be here in Henley.”

In a 90-minute set, Ferry played the keyboards and harmonica while his backing singers and dancers added style and flare in their black and gold dresses.

Ferry looked relaxed, dancing and getting the packed grandstand and guests on the lawn in front to clap and sing along.

The singer was introduced by actress Penelope Keith, who said: “I’ve never appeared on a floating stage before but they tell me it’s anchored!”

She talked briefly about the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, of which she is an ambassador and the festival supports.

Earlier in the evening, festival-goers strolled alongside the Thames, taking in the entertainment and art and sculptures on display. Many had picnics in the car park or visited the on-site restaurants.
