Going for Gold
Published 30/07/14

JUDGES visited Henley today (Tuesday) as part of the national Britain in Bloom finals.

This year marks the town’s second attempt to win gold in the town category of the Royal Horticultural Society-run competition.

Judges Jeff Bates and Ian Beaney were met by Kellie Hinton, chairwoman of Henley in Bloom, and Gareth Bartle, parks manager for Henley Town Council.

Their first stop was Millennium Court, where they viewed poppies planted by children and a residential garden.

They were then given a presentation by Councillor Hinton on the work of Henley in Bloom and its future plans.

The judges were then taken on a three-hour tour of the town which included a trip on the Thames.

They visited Marsh Meadows and Mill Meadows and followed a route along Station Road, Reading Road and Greys Road.

They also viewed floral beds in Market Place, Gravel Hill, West Street and Fair Mile.

They were met by Henley Mayor Martin Akehurst for lunch at the Bell in Bull Street with members of the Henley in Bloom committee and Brakspear.
