A professor from Rotherfield Greys has been appointed an OBE for his services to the international business scholarship.
John Dunning is an emeritus professor of international business at the University of Reading and Rutgers University in the USA, having worked in the field of international business for 50 years.
Mr. Dunning is widely recognised as one of the world’s most influential and cited scholars, researching into the economics of foreign direct investment and the activities of multinational enterprises and has written, co-authored or edited 50 books on the subject.
He is currently senior economic advisor to the investment analyst branch of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development; and in the past has worked with several departments of the UK government.
“I am delighted to be receiving this honour,” said Mr. Dunning. “It is always nice to be recognised for the work that you do.
“I like to think that I have created something of a legacy at the University of Reading in that I have helped build up a school of scholars that are well renowned in the field in which they work.
“I take great heart from the fact that my 50 PhD students — who are all now professors in their own right — are now all playing an important role as academics working within the Government and elsewhere,” he added.
Mr. Dunning, of Satwell Close, has been instrumental in the merger between the business school at the University of Reading and Henley Management College, which is to take place from August 1st, with the centre being renamed The John H Dunning Centre for International Business.
He said: “I think it is fantastic that the management college has been integrated into the university, it has become the fifth faculty. And, hopefully, through their involvement in the coming years the university will continue to thrive and reclaim the number one spot after it slipped slightly in the overall world rankings.
“In the future I am hoping to continue my research into the area of multinational enterprises and the global economy and try and continue to make a difference through my work.”
