A LEANDER Club member of 57 years has died, aged 81.
William Wallace, of Mill Road, Shiplake, was visiting family in Australia when he died in his sleep.
The club will pay tribute to Mr Wallace by flying its flag at half mast on the day of his funeral. His wife Joan died four years ago.
A Leander spokesman said: “We are saddened to hear of William’s death. He joined in 1951 and was a popular member. Our condolences are with his family at this time.”
Mr Wallace worked at Henley’s River and Rowing Museum for five years, and also helped rowers at Shiplake College and the Oratory School in Woodcote.
