ATHLETES who train at Leander Club in Henley had a welcome break from their winter schedule at the weekend when they staged the Turkey Sculls.
Racing in quad sculls over a sprint course from the Regatta finish to the clubhouse, the winning crew were awarded turkeys by the Copas Partnership, which has supported the event for years.
Olympic champion Mark Hunter took second place in the knockout tournament.
A dead-heat in his semi-final forced an immediate re-row and his crew was then beaten in the final by Diamond Sculls winner Ian Lawson and his crew, Tom Wright, Graham Hall and Tommy Burton.
Club captain Steve Williams was starter for the race before he flew to visit his parents in Australia over Christmas. He is expected to make an announcement on his future early in the new year.
