FOLLOWING a sensational premiere at the Soho Theatre, Rosalind Adler brings LOL — her one-act play about internet dating — to Henley.
A painful and joyous rollercoaster ride through the lives and loves of three apparently unconnected women, and interspersed with delicious extracts from real online profiles, LOL revels in the fast-expanding phenomenon that is internet dating in the noughties.
Lucinda eats men for breakfast — if they’re lucky; Sarah’s ready for commitment — and even married Mags is curious.
Ros is very glad to be back after her play last year, JUBILATE!, won two Gold Standard awards at the festival.
The idea for LOL started when Ros was on a date with a new man (someone she’d met on an internet dating site) and he told her the story of what he’d done when faced with a former datee whose photo had not been, let’s say, totally up-to-date.
The imagined story of that woman — and the character of that man — fired the beginnings of the new play.
Four months later, reviews from audience members at the Soho premiere were very positive. They included comments such as “brilliant”, “a masterpiece”, “remarkable”, “a tour de force — Rosalind Adler at her best”, “LOL will have you gripped from start to finish — a truly original and brilliant piece of work” and “one of the best shows I’ve seen”.
Clive Evans, a producer at NICE films said: “Many congratulations. You must/should feel very proud at the reception you got tonight. The production is very funny, moving and perfect. Excellent stuff and reminded me of La Ronde.”
If you do intenet dating, or have tried it, or are thinking about trying it, or if you know someone who does it — and you probably do — you won’t want to miss LOL.
