AN osteopath is offering her services to people and horses.
Kate Lockwood, 33, from Stonor, believes that treating animal and owner together helps improve both.
The former veterinary nurse said: “If a person has a bad back it can affect the way they ride, which can affect the horse and vice-versa.
“I had treatment with my horse which improved us both no end. I fell off my horse when I was young and fractured my coccyx.
“Meanwhile, my horse had a problem with his back. Within three treatments, I was better and so was he. I thought it was amazing so I decided to become an osteopath.”
Mrs Lockwood qualified last year from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in London and is now doing a masters in animal osteopathy, which will make her only the sixth person with the qualification.
She will operate from the Expert Fitness gym in Bell Street, Henley, twice a week and the Castle Osteopath clinic in Wallingford. She said: “My job requires a thorough knowledge of horses and their physiology. You look at the way a horse stands and moves as well as the structure of its muscles.
“You can feel the animal and find muscle tension, a lack of muscle or joint restrictions. Then you can treat this with mobilisation, massage and joint work.”
Mrs Lockwood was married last year to Andrew, a land director for a housing company. For more information, visit www.katelockwoodosteo.com
