RAF Benson held its annual families’ day last week to thank the relatives of service personnel for their support.
Prince Michael of Kent, the station’s honorary air commodore, Richard Dick, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, and Wallingord Mayor Dee Cripps attended the event.
A flying display featured RAF Benson’s Merlin and Puma helicopters, which demonstrated how they perform on operations, a Lancaster bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane. The Red Arrows made a surprise fly-past.
Classic cars and motorcycles were on display, along with a Williams Formula 1 car. The day ended with a party and fireworks display, with a children’s entertainer, band and Elvis impersonator.
More than £3,500 was raised for the Bomber Command Memorial Appeal, the RAF Benevolent Fund and Helen and Douglas House.
