COUNCILLORS are objecting to plans to renew razor wire fences around Friar Park in Henley.
Olivia Harrison, widow of Beatle George, has applied to replace the fence around her home in Gravel Hill.
On Tuesday, members of the town council’s planning committee voted unanimously to oppose the plan, saying they “strongly object to the use of razor wire... which is unneighbourly and inappropriate and detrimental to the character of the conservation area”.
The committee, which is chaired by Councillor Allan Follett, said it had no objection to a separate application to remove the existing boundary fence.
Earlier this month, the Standard reported how actor Rodney Bewes, star of Seventies sitcom The Likely Lads, who lives nearby, claims the razor wire fence almost killed his cat, Maurice. A final decision will be made by South Oxfordshire District Council.
The committee also objected to an application to build a timber-clad extension with aluminium windows at a house in St Mark’s Road because it would be “inappropriate”.
Eric Butcher wants to construct the single-storey extension to his kitchen/dining room and put in a new light in an existing first-floor roof at the rear of the property.
Councillor Simon Smith pointed out the house was in a conservation area. Councillor Jeni Wood said she had looked at the property and felt there wasn’t room for an extension.
