THE Face of Henley charity has received a boost after an author pledged a donation from sales of her book.
Julie Shorter, whose novel Cox And Shoppers was voted a “five-star read” by Amazon, will be signing copies at the charity’s Christmas fair at Henley Rugby Club on Thursday.
The book is about the exploits of air crews and rowing, much of it “centred around” Henley.
Money raised from sales at the fair will be donated to the charity. The Bell Bookshop, which stocks Cox And Shoppers, will also make a donation.
Mrs Shorter, a former air hostess who lives in Emmer Green, said: “I got to know the Face of Henley through my work as the extended schools co-ordinator for the Henley partnership of schools. The charity donated £5,000 towards funding student counselling at Gillotts School and its feeder primary schools and I wanted to give something back.”
The Face of Henley has raised more than £50,000 for local good causes and will donate £1,500 raised at the fair for Henley Lions Club to help buy Christmas gifts for the elderly. The fair takes place between 9.30am and 3pm. Admission is £4.
