TWO women are organising an indoor rowing event with some of the proceeds going to charity.
Emma Leech and Judith Burne, both regular members of the Phyllis Court Rowing Club, say the races will provide participants with “healthy exercise in a competitive but fun atmosphere”.
The pair hope to attract entries from established clubs as well as indoor rowing enthusiasts.
The event, known as the Henley 2k Indoor Rowing Championships, will be held at Upper Thames Rowing Club and will include a 2,000m relay race for teams of four as well as a 2K individual sprint.
Emma, a teacher at Rupert House School, said: “Whether you are an experienced rower or have never used a rowing machine, this will be an excellent opportunity to improve your technique and fitness. The event will be led by experienced rowers and we are hoping that one or two rowing celebrities will be on hand to help motivate the youngsters.”
Judith, of New Street, Henley, said: “We are not looking to make a profit, but simply to stage an event that will prove popular with the local rowing community. If there are any excess funds a proportion will be donated to charities supporting the development of youth rowing.”
Members of the Leander, Henley and Upper Thames rowing clubs as well as the women’s own club are helping to organise the event.
The event will take place on Saturday, December 5, with the first race at 1.30pm. For more information, including an entry form, visit www.henley2k.com
