School celebrates ‘determination and courage’

STAFF, students and governors celebrated the achievements of Langtree School’s leavers.

The former year 11 students were given awards for achievements in exams, sports and drama, presented by Paralympic gold medallist and former student Graham Edmunds.

A new performing arts award was given to the cast of Sweeney Todd, this year’s school play.

Headteacher Rick White said: “It was highly fitting that Graham spoke on the theme of determination, dedication and courage in achieving personal goals. The evening was a great success and we wish all our students from the class of 2009 every success in the future.”

The awards were presented as follows: Art and design: (achievement) Eleanor Hardwick, (progress) Jessica Kinghorn. Art double: Claire Piggot, Charlotte Harris. Design technology: Mark Humphries, Tammy Butcher. Drama: Sean Sewell and Amy Holland, Holly Fuller. English language: Nic Durand, Gemma Hoare. English literature: Tom Wright, Tom Garner. Food technology: Robert Whittaker, Tom Bonner. Geography: Ian Stevens, Zac Lea. Citizenship: Alice Pape, Sam Allum. History: Rebecca Shears, Chris Brennan. Maths: Will Taverner, George O’Brien. Maths statistics: Tom Hunt. French: Suzie Allen, Katie Chamberlain. German: Alice Pape, Jonathan Shunn. Music: Sarah Parkes Bowen, Joe Gannon. PE: Ryan Bonner, Luke Butler. RE: Ella Shepard, Nathan Hyde. Science core: Russell Collier, John Lowney. Science additional: Douglas Randall, Lucy Sanders. Science triple: Jake Bennett, Sam Kelly. ICT: Jack Graves, Helen Cripps. Youth awards: Kirstie Langford, Helen Povey. 10 A* to A grades: Kathryn Jones, Jenny McWhirter, Sarah Parkes Bowen and Ben Strickland Taylor. Countryside stewardship: Edward Lindley. Design and technology: Ben Strickland Taylor and Russell Collier. Wayne Pink Shield: Connor Mattimore. History excellence: Eleanor Hardwick. Performing arts award: Anastasia Budziszewski. Excellence in PE: Matt Plosynski and Tamas Barrett. Contribution to the school: Ellie Lead and Ed Dickens.
