The Upper Thames women’s squad performed well in the Vesta Scullers’ Head at Mortlake, continuing their winning streak this season.
Ali Gill competed in the women’s veteran C category and won in a time of 23 minutes 25 seconds, beating eight other scullers by a large margin.
The second win came from Emma Windham who raced in the novice sculls against a strong field of 21 scullers, winning the pennant by 12 seconds. Another worthy row came from James Halsall who came 29th out of the 500 scullers taking part.
The UTRC junior squad were prominent in the large entry to Hampton School’s Small Boats Head on Saturday. A fast stream and strong tail wind made for good conditions. Sam Mottram had been unbeaten this autumn, but club mate and doubles partner Nick Vail finally came out on top with a time of 9:46.1, one and a half seconds ahead of Mottram. This bodes well for next summer.
