A SELF-CONFESSED hoarder has sold some of her possessions to raise money for her three-year-old daughter’s pre-school.
Linda Clarke also agreed to have the sale filmed for the BBC’s Trash For Cash programme.
Ms Clarke, of Ashford Avenue, Sonning Common, was put forward for the show by her other daughter Katherine, 20.
Katherine, of Wood Lane Close, Sonning Common, said: “I watched the programme and thought that mum was worse for keeping things than the people they have on there. She keeps everything — it is awful. She has so many toys — I think she has kept every single one of ours.”
Ms Clarke, an auxiliary nurse at the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed, went through the clutter in every room at her house with the help of friend and work colleague Tracy Trimmings. The sale took place on Sunday with items including a marble table and garden furniture as well as toys. It raised £530, half of which will be donated to Sonning Common Pre-school, which daughter Francesca attends.
“I decided to raise money for the pre-school because my 11-year-old son Thomas has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and the pre-school wants to put in a sensory garden. If it had been in place when he was there it could have meant him being diagnosed a lot earlier.
“The sale went really well and was great fun. Katherine was pleased to see all the stuff go. There were a few things left at the end so we took them to the hospice for it to sell.”
Jo Batten, manager of the pre-school, said the money would go towards furnishing a new £300,000 building funded by Oxfordshire County Council.
“Our next project will be to landscape the outside, which will include a sensory garden,” she said. “The pre-school is very grateful to Linda.”
The episode will be shown on BBC 1 in April.
